The Artist’s Gift – Investing in Connection Through Art

After more than 11 weeks of pouring my heart, time, and resources into the “Miss Mary” piano project, the reveal was a joy—celebrating music, theatre, collaboration, and community. But as the applause fades and the piano begins its public life, I’ve been reflecting on something important: how we, as a society, value the arts.
The truth is, creating community art takes more than talent. It takes time, energy, and significant resources—often far more than what is provided. For the “Miss Mary” project, I received a $600 stipend from the Oceanside Cultural Arts Foundation. Yet the paint, materials, and professional topcoating alone totaled over $1,000. That doesn’t include the weeks of full-time work, late nights, volunteer organizing, or the love and soul poured into every detail.
This isn’t a complaint. It’s a call to awareness.
Too many artists can’t afford to say “yes” to community projects, because they lack the financial support. I’ve been blessed with a loving husband who believes in my work—but many artists don’t have that safety net. And even with support, I dream of being self-sustaining—able to say yes more freely, give more generously, and invest more deeply in community through creativity.
That’s why I’m introducing “The Artist’s Gift” program—a mission to fund art that gives back. Not just for me, but for the community and other artists too. When you support this work, you’re not just donating. You’re investing in connection. You’re saying, “Yes—art matters.”
🎭 Because without art, we lose our stories.
🎶 Without investment, creativity becomes a luxury.
💛 And without support, many artists simply disappear.
If you’ve ever felt moved by a painting, a song, a story, a play—this is your chance to give back to the well that feeds us all.
