The unknown face. Pen and ink. By Bjlane
A woman starred at me with her somber expression. The torn edges of the black paper-framed photo spoke of many hands who had touched it. “Who was this woman? What had her life been like? Did she have a family? Children? Was she from a wealthy family?” Digging through the rest of the photos of unknown people, I couldn’t fathom the idea of separating her from possible relatives. Instead, I purchased the entire box for future study.
I am grateful for those who have come before. I am grateful for their courage. I am grateful for their determination. I am grateful for their lives and their gift of history.
