"Time is clicking"

National Autism Awareness Month, Bjlane Art

Title: "Time's A Ticking""

Medium: ink and Graphite on Paper

Size: 18"x24"

The early years . . .

Time passes by, and life is full. In this piece, you see Tammy's two older siblings actively partaking in home making chores. The color of excitement is in the air. Dishes are washed, party trays are prepared, and visitors are expected to arrive soon.

The busy mother reflects the many roles she plays, as she is portrayed in four different poses . . . cleaning, serving, instructing, and interacting with the family.

Tammy sits in the midst of it all––surrounded by activity. In her own tiny world she spins the bowl with a spoon. Round and round it goes. Entertained by the movement she is oblivious to the life around her. Focused on her own activity, she is silent . . . separate . . . unengaged. No one notices. Tammy slips further into her own world. Time is ticking . . .

According to Autism Speaks, "Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are characterized by social-interaction difficulties, communication challenges and a tendency to engage in repetitive behaviors. However, symptoms and their severity vary widely across these three core areas. Taken together, they may result in relatively mild challenges for someone on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum. For others, symptoms may be more severe, as when repetitive behaviors and lack of spoken language interfere with everyday life."

"The Missing Piece" by Jocelyn Plowey'

Facebook: Jocelyn Plowey

"The days are out numbered; time is clicking on our shoulders, too much to bear, families struggling to overcome their fears for the future of their love ones. A solution, a miracle, to solve the missing piece of the puzzle. A long process we are bearing! The hidden ability of our special needs, who so desperately want to come out of their world to meet us halfway for acceptance in our society."
