"Mostly Sunny" Oil on canvas 36"x 54" ©2010
"Some painters transform the sun into a yellow dot. Others transform a yellow dot into the sun." - Pablo Picasso
On an overcast day in Southern California, a drive into the city is a spectacular sight. The reflections on the pavement pick up surrounding colors, structures, and road signs. Clouds open briefly, providing a quick glance of blue. Suddenly, rain pitter-patters on the pavement, and bounces joyfully back into the atmosphere. The pungent odors of organic life and settling dust fill the senses with pleasure. Barely visible, the motorcycle ahead splits lanes. A vintage car reflects the blue spot of sky above. The commuter seems unaware of the beautiful scene as they drive on to their destination. The weatherman has his own prediction for this day --- “mostly sunny with a chance of rain”.
